MAYOR SUSPENDS RED-LIGHT ORDINANCE
Feb. 14, 2008 - An obviously angry Mayor Martin Chavez
on Thursday "suspended" the City's red-light and speed camera ordinance
soon after the State Legislature removed most of the profit from the
offensive program. The Mayor threatened that police response time
would be increased, citing the $1.2 million cost of running the program
without most of the revenue. It was unclear whether the Mayor has
the authority to suspend the law. The move appeared to be part of
a political feud between Albuquerque's Mayor and New Mexico Governor
Bill Richardson.
